BIOGRAPHY

Hans Jacob Wohlfarth is a forward-thinking musician and composer who can move fluently between tradition and progression back and forth.

Born in Leipzig, he studied with renowned musicians such as Till Brönner, Malte Burba, Sebastian Studnitzky and Peter Asplund. Not only within Germany, but also in Sweden, Ecuador, Poland, et al. he could be heard with different constellations. Among them are the "Bundesjazzorchster" (BuJazzO), the "Orchestra des Jeunes de l´ONJ" (2024-2025 France) his quartet "Hans Jacob Wohlfarth Kvartett" and the band „Nesta".

Hans Jacob Wohlfarth's taste in music cannot be limited stylistically. An example of this is Hilmar Dressler's neoclassical works for piano and trumpet dedicated to him. Furthermore, with his quartet he fuses early elements of free-jazz (Ornette Coleman/Don Cherry) with the neo-bop of the eighties and other influences. He completes the challenge of balancing tradition and progression successfully. And even his interest in electronically improvised music is expressed by his band “Nesta”.
